Terra Handcrafted & Permanent Jewelry is named after both our metalsmith and jewelry designer, Tara, and the Latin word for Earth, “Terra”. Our mission is to create timeless, wearable art that celebrates you and the beauty of our planet. Every piece is crafted with intention and care, designed to be lived in daily. Inspired by nature, resilience, and simplicity, our jewelry reflects a meaningful connection to the world around us.
Meet Tara – The Artist Behind the Jewelry
Tara, our founder and designer, is a mother of two and the wife of an active-duty military member. Raised in Appalachia (southeastern Kentucky), Tara grew up surrounded by creativity, with a seamstress mother and a basket-making grandmother who nurtured her love for art.
Before becoming a jeweler, Tara spent years as a professional whitewater river guide in the southeastern U.S., immersing herself in nature before returning home to pursue a science education degree. She went on to teach middle school science in Kentucky, sharing her passion for the planet. However, life took a new turn when her family relocated to California for their first military base assignment.
The Start of Terra Handcrafted
In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Tara returned to her artistic roots. She ordered her first metalsmithing torch, a small supply of silver, and transformed her garage into a workshop. Self-taught in hand fabrication and metalsmithing, she discovered a passion for creating jewelry meant to be worn every day.
To Tara, jewelry is more than just an accessory—it’s a connection. Whether it’s a symbol of love, a personal keepsake, or a memorial to a loved one, jewelry tells a story. This belief led to the expansion of Terra Handcrafted, blending traditional metalsmithing with the unique, interactive experience of permanent jewelry.
